Sudantha Soysa (Head Coach)
With over three decades of experience as a player, coach, and mentor, Sudantha has developed champions at both national and international levels.
Sudantha is a veteran in the world of tennis, bringing over 35 years of coaching experience to the court. As the Founder of Masters Tennis Academy (MTA), Sri Lanka, he has dedicated his life to developing tennis talent and promoting the sport at all levels. His journey as a tennis professional and mentor reflects a rare blend of playing excellence, coaching expertise, and leadership.
Over the years as a player, Sudantha reached impressive milestones
- He competed in the Junior Wimbledon Championships (1986), showcasing his skills on an international stage.
- Became Sri Lanka’s Junior National Champion in under-12, under-14, and under-16 categories from 1982 to 1986.
- Represented Sri Lanka as the fourth member of the Davis Cup team during the tie against Pakistan (1986).
- Claimed victory in the Boys’ Singles under-16 category at the Junior International Championships of Sri Lanka (1986).
- He played at the Junior Wimbledon Championships in 1986, showcasing his skills on an international stage.
- Won the National Mixed Doubles title (1992).
- Played as the #1 player for Pierce College, California, USA, further solidifying his reputation in tennis.
Sudantha's extensive coaching career is marked by numerous accomplishments and key leadership roles. He is a certified ITF Coach and ITF Tutor, and his qualifications underscore his technical expertise and commitment to the sport.
- He served as a Travelling Coach on the Women’s Pro Tour (WTA), working with Sri Lanka’s highest-ranked professional player, Lihini Weerasuriya, who achieved a career-high singles ranking of 268 and doubles ranking of 292.
- Held roles as the Head Coach of Sri Lanka's national men’s and women’s pools, SAF Games Coach, and Director of Coaching at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association.
- Served as Coach and Captain of the Junior Davis Cup Team in 2019, where he led the Sri Lanka team from relegation to securing qualification for the Asia-Oceania World Group.
- As Davis Cup Coach (2018-2019), guided Sri Lanka to secure promotion to World Group II for the year 2020.
- In 2020, Sudantha was the coach and captain of the Sri Lanka Davis Cup team, which played against Paraguay in World Group II. This was the first time Sri Lanka played a Davis Cup match outside of Asia.
- Coached Anjalika Kurera, the youngest national champion in two decades, who also won two ITF junior titles in 2019.
- Former FED Cup and Billie Jean King Cup Coach, contributing to the development of Sri Lanka’s top female players.
